Engineering & Built Environment
This sector is responsible for the development of standards in the area of automotive components for vehicles, buses, lifting equipment and other aspects of transportation, buildings, construction, civil, timber, mechanical engineering, mining and mining equipment, paraffin stoves, liquefied petroleum gas, vessels under pressure, solar water heaters, storage vessels for petroleum products, rail, and road.
It develops and maintains relevant national standards and other normative documents in the following areas
- Construction
- Water and sanitation
- Solar heating systems, energy efficiency, alternative fuel vehicles
- Fire safety, security, including safes, strong-room doors and locks
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Non-destructive testing
- Timber, furniture
- Petroleum Industry – equipment and systems
- Ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Plastic products, including pipes, packaging, gloves
- Automotive, including cranes, small craft, bearings, jacks, lift trucks
- Lifts, escalators, conveyors
- Engineering materials, including mechanical testing of metals
- Firearms, ammunition and ranges
