Supply Chain Management

The SABS Supply Chain Division is responsible for the group’s supply chain management (SCM) through the following components: strategic and operational sourcing, and warehouse management. The Division is proud of its proven track record in corporate governance and has maintained a clean SCM audit since 2012.

As an organ of state the SABS’ SCM policies and procedures are aligned to the relevant acts and registration, in particular PFMA, PPPFA, BBBEE and relevant treasury regulations, instructions, circulars and guidelines. The SABS promotes preferential procurement and SMME in line with BBBEE to promote local content without compromising competitive cost and the capability to provide quality goods and services.

It is the policy of the SABS to procure technically and operationally suitable quality goods, works and services at optimum total cost of ownership. Preference is given to products bearing a quality mark e.g. SABS mark, on the grounds that conformity with technical requirement is assured.
Preference will be given to suppliers certified to SANS 9001/ISO 9001 by SANAS accredited (or SANAS recognised) certification bodies on the grounds that their processes are adequately controlled.

Objectives

  • To consolidate total spending in order to achieve economies of scale.
  • To reduce the total cost of ownership of goods and services.
  • To set and meet internal BBBEE targets.
  • To provide internal customers with the value added service and the goods and services which they require to perform their functions.
  • To uphold SABS’ value system, that is, Respect, Accountability, Fairness and Trust when procuring goods and services.
  • To appoint suppliers following the procurement process that is fair, transparent, competitive, cost-effective and equitable, in line with the Preferential Procurement Policy Act no.5 of 2000.
