Draft Standard for Public Review

The Standards Division of the SABS acts as a facilitator for the South African Government in the development and maintenance of South African Standards and as a publishing house for South African Standards and related documents.

A project leader, in conjunction with a national committee working group, prepares one or more working drafts of a standard, which are preliminary documents. On acceptance of the committee draft, a Draft South African Standard (DSS) is made available for public comment both nationally and internationally (public enquiry stage).

A comment period of 60 days is required in terms of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Code of Practice for the Preparation, Adoption and Application of Standards (a 30-day comment period applies for adoptions). If the technical committee approves the draft standard, it is forwarded to the Standards Approvals Committee (SAC) for ratification. After ratification the document is released for publication.

For further information on draft standards, please contact us at info@sabs.co.za
